ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The ROZMAII Directing Program is a structured professional training program designed to develop directorial thinking and provide practical tools for creating original film projects. The program covers working with dramatic material, actors, framing, mise-en-scène, and the creative team, as well as preparing for filming, working on set, and understanding the filmmaking process from the initial idea to the completed film. An important part of the program is also developing a broader understanding of art — its history, psychology, and cultural context. Throughout the year, students not only study directing but continuously apply their knowledge in practice by filming scenes, completing directing assignments, and creating their own short films.
The curriculum consists of two parallel areas of study: practical directing training twice a week and the shared Anatomy of Art course once a week.
DIRECTING
Twice a week
Professional practical training for directors, including work with ideas and dramatic material, scene construction, mise-en-scène, directing actors, the visual language of cinema, collaboration with cinematographers and the creative team, preparation for filming, and work on set.
Directorial ThinkingWorking with theme, idea, and the director’s vision. Analysing dramatic material, conflict, characters, and scene structure, and finding the appropriate directorial approach.
Working with ActorsSetting acting objectives, working with action and given circumstances, conducting rehearsals, and collaborating with actors during the preparation and filming of a scene.
Visual Language of CinemaFrame composition, mise-en-scène, shot sizes, camera movement, rhythm, space, and time in film. Students learn to collaborate with cinematographers and develop visual solutions that support the director’s vision.
Preparation and FilmingCreating a director’s treatment, storyboarding, scene planning, working with the creative team, and making directorial decisions on set.
ANATOMY OF ART
Once a week
Shared classes with students from the acting, screenwriting, cinematography, and producing programs, focused on the history, psychology, and cultural context of art. Film, theatre, literature, music, visual art, and other artistic disciplines are explored not only historically, but through the analysis of works, movements, ideas, and processes that shape art.
The aim of the course is to broaden cultural awareness, develop the ability to recognise connections between different art forms, analyse works and artistic phenomena, formulate independent opinions, and develop artistic taste. Studying together with students from different disciplines also creates a space for discussion, exchange of perspectives, and the development of a shared professional language between actors, directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and producers.
LEARNING THROUGH PRACTICE
The Directing Program works in close collaboration with the other ROZMAII film programs. Students work with screenwriters, actors, cinematographers, and producers, form creative teams, and go through the real filmmaking process — from the first script analysis and pre-production to working on set and completing the finished film. Throughout the program, directing students complete practical assignments, film individual scenes, and create short films. The final project of the program is a graduation short film.

How does admission to the program work?
Admission to the Directing Program is based on an interview.
After you submit an application, we will contact you to get to know you and discuss your creative interests, motivation, and expectations from the program.
How are the classes structured?
The program combines theory with continuous practical work: film and screenplay analysis, directing exercises, scene work, collaboration with actors and camera, development of original ideas, rehearsals, and filming.
What is “Anatomy of Art”?
Anatomy of Art is a shared course for students from all ROZMAII film programs, dedicated to the history and psychology of culture and art.
During the course, we analyse film, theatre, literature, and other artistic phenomena, learn to understand context, explore how and why works of art are created, and develop our own artistic taste.
Do I need to work outside regular classes?
Yes. Directing requires significant independent and collaborative work. Preparing directing assignments, analysing material, rehearsing with actors, pre-production, and some filming take place outside the regular class schedule.
What will I gain after completing the program?
You will gain a structured foundation in directing, experience working with scripts, actors, cameras, and creative teams, practical experience organising and carrying out film shoots, participation in the creation of short films, and a completed graduation directing project for your professional portfolio.
You will also become part of a creative community of like-minded people.
ROZMAII is a place where actors, directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and producers meet, work together, create their own projects, and continue making art together after completing the program.
How long does the program last?
The program lasts 9 months, from October 16, 2026 to July 30, 2027.
Classes take place three times a week, with each class lasting 3 hours.
